Lost Souls

The Gathering is over. If you missed it, you missed out. I made some pseudo-motivational posters, but in hindsight they are all really mean—the sort of thing that could haunt me later if I put them out on the 'net. (Although I am rather fond of the one I made with V.I. Lenin…)

What I'd like to see more of is regional Gatherings like this. Okay, not like this—someone's going to get killed—but on a smaller & more local scale. Each local Pack does not exist in isolation. We are each a part of a larger orgainisation. That organisation is also comprised of local Packs around yours. Let us not forget this. So, in the spirit of fostering greater communication and camaraderie between Packs, I am calling for each local Pack to get together with those in their areas for your own Gatherings. We will coordinate things here, if needed (that means "contact us" not "wait for Kinslayer to contact you") and we will attend whatever ones we can.

The Gathering

Announcing the first

Lost Souls Pack Gathering

This January, the Cape Fear Pack is hosting an all-Pack Gathering. That's right, we're bringing the tribes together. Specific details will be posted as they are known. That is, if you are cleared to know…

This is an international event, with Packmates from all over, including the Great Old Bastards of the First Pack.

Battle Scars

We've added a content manager, which integrates the new forums with the other new stuff. The old static pages are still there, just like before. We fixed them all.

On the plus side, all of the new dynamic content uses the same login. This means that you can see who else is online while you're adding to your character journal, joining in a play-by-post story, or bullshitting via the chat/shoutbox. It also means that there are some new toys for everyone to play with. Among other things:

  • Everybody gets their own Journal page. It's automatically set up when you register; you just have to add content. This is set up for multiple posts in reverse chronological order, blog style. This is for character journals ("blue booking"), ledgers, campaign journals, or whatever you need.
  • Making your own supplement, mod, netbook, or patch is now much easier, and it is now easier to make this a group effort. Just use the "Compendium" option. There's a lot of stuff you can do with the compendiums. If you are worried about people's negative opinions of a rough work-in-progress, don't be. Kinslayer has been building this thing out in the open for quite some time now. Now our creative processes for new supplements will also be much more transparent. It's much easier to create group projects, and these tend to do better than the usual "wait for one person" job.
  • Surveys (a.k.a. "polls") aren't just limited to registered users of the forums. You can use one for a netbook you're working on, and use the exact same one on your campaign journal. And everyone can vote.
  • The Sermons by Night chat/shoutbox is on every page of the Battle Scars section. There is no separate login or screen. Just type & hit 'enter' or 'send'
  • Everything is syndicated. This means you can subscribe to someone's campaign journal, follow the progress of a project you're interested in, and keep track of all the new goodies being added. This is RSS, so those of us using Firefox can see new pages added right in our bookmarks (like it already does with BBC News). This can work both ways, too. If there's a site you think we should all follow, there's a sneakily hidden page just waiting to be filled with news.
  • There is also a Content Tracker so you can look at all the new content (not just forum posts) at a glance. You can also keep track of your own submitted content using the tracker.
  • And you can make static pages. These are stand-alone pages, and aren't made to be inherently linked together like Scrolls & Compendiums. These can be used for character sheets, campaign intros, or links collecting your favourite Midian content.

It's also (supposedly) a high security system. It should limit the number of spam attacks, or at least make it so that they have to actually sign in & type out their garbage like everyone else, instead of hitting thousands of sites via bots.

You can also put comments all over just about everything.

Midian Dark Fantasy Roleplaying Game: the official game of the internet.

While looking over the new server logs, nameless noticed someone was searching specifically for city names that are old Lost Souls hangouts. I must confess that I fear we have strayed from our main purpose, which is keeping the scattered Pack of the Lost Souls in some kind of contact—the Midian Game is just a side-project. There are quite a few of us, in all corners of the globe, which makes having a central communications point very strongly desired. Given that membership is rather viral—invitation only, and only for those who express an interest and are found worthy—even keeping track of who is a member is extraordinarily difficult.

The purpose of this website is to be that central communications hub. I strongly encourage all Lost Souls Pack members who read this message to contact us, whether you be in Korea, Germany, the US, or wherever, we want to hear from you. Consider this a personal invitation from Cardinal Kinslayer.

Lost-Souls.hk.st is now Lost-Souls.co.nr. Adjust accordingly. This also means that you can now go directly to pages & folders. For example, http://lost-souls.co.nr/Death.htm gets you directly to the Death supplement, and http://lost-souls.co.nr/Chat/ gets you directly to our new chat rooms.

To all the spammers, wanna-be hackers, and other script kiddie assholes targeting this site. I have informed your isp, webhost, the creators of the toolkits you used (as well as their hosts, et al), the governmental authorities of your respective countries, and—in some cases—I have your parents' phone numbers. To quote the poet, "it ain't cute, it ain't funny, it's just rude." At best, your antics are a minor nuissance, and I'm tired of playing with you. It's time to let those responsible for your actions be held accountable for your childish games.

We have two separate mailing lists. One is for the Lost Souls, and features the darker side of life. The other is for the Midian game, and features game ideas and upcoming releases. These are very irregularly posted to, and includes updates & various tidbits for your reading pleasure. As an alternative to the forms, you could go Here
